Heavy Duty Compostable Garbage Bags
01
What it is

ES-GB-05 is our heavy-duty certified garbage bag — engineered for commercial kitchens, food courts, outdoor venues, and municipal collection where wet, heavy, and sharp-edged waste puts ordinary compostable bags at risk of failure..

02
Key differentiator

The differentiator is tear resistance. At 50 μm with a double-reinforced bottom gusset and oriented polymer chain extrusion, ES-GB-05 delivers tensile strength that competes with conventional PE in the field.

03
Where it fits in your range

Where it sits in our range. ES-GB-05 is the strongest bag in the General Bags category.

04
When NOT to specify

When not to specify it. If your waste stream is consistently dry and light (office paper, packaging, bathroom waste), ES-GB-03 or ES-GB-06 will serve you at a meaningfully lower per-bag cost.

Key Features

Star-seal base with eight-point radial weld

distributes load evenly and prevents puncture blowouts from sharp-edged waste

Reinforced 22-micron PBAT/PLA film

10% thicker than standard 20-micron gauge for heavier wet organic waste

Flex-elastic drawstring technology

proprietary filament-drawing process creates a drawstring with elastic snap-back feel

Odour-control mineral additive

reduces organic waste smell accumulation during extended collection cycles in warm climates

Dual-certified: EN 13432 + home compostable (AS 5810)

dual certification for regulatory flexibility across markets

100% compostable drawstring

every component including the drawstring is PLA+PBAT with no separate plastic parts

Applications

Commercial Kitchens & Food Courts

High-volume food waste that destroys standard bags — these hold up through a full service shift without failure

Outdoor Events & Venues

Festival, stadium, and park waste collection where wind, weather, and rough handling demand maximum bag integrity

Municipal Waste Collection

Heavy-duty compostable liners for municipal organics bins — survives the bin-to-truck journey without splitting

Limitations & Storage

While puncture-resistant, these are not puncture-proof — sharp metal, large glass shards, or construction debris can still cause tears. Maximum sustained wet load of 8 hours — for 24-hour+ liquid containment, consider rigid bin liners. Not rated for hazardous, medical, or construction waste. Industrial/commercial use only at 30μm+ gauge; thinner gauges available for lighter applications.

Frequently asked questions

What makes these bags "heavy-duty" vs. your standard bags?

Three factors: (1) minimum 30μm gauge vs. 20μm standard — 50% thicker film, (2) proprietary polymer chain orientation during blown film extrusion that increases tear resistance by 25% without adding material weight, and (3) double-reinforced bottom gusset with cross-laminated film that eliminates the weak point where most garbage bags fail. These bags are tested to 12+ kg mixed waste loads vs. 6–8 kg for our standard bags.

Can these handle broken glass and sharp packaging?

Yes — within reason. The 30μm gauge and oriented film structure provide significantly better puncture resistance than standard compostable bags. However, large shards of broken glass or sharp metal edges can still puncture any bag. For construction or demolition waste with heavy sharps, we recommend a rigid container liner approach rather than a flexible bag.

How do the economics compare to conventional heavy-duty plastic garbage bags?

At 30μm, our heavy-duty compostable bags cost approximately 25–30% more than equivalent-gauge HDPE garbage bags. However, this premium is frequently offset by: (a) avoided plastic bag fees or taxes in regulated jurisdictions, (b) LEED/BREEAM green building certification credits, and (c) customer/member preference in sustainability-focused organizations. We provide a total-cost-of-ownership analysis tool for institutional buyers.
