Which Compostability Certification Do You Need?
ASTM D6400, EN 13432, AS 5810, AS 4736 — the right certification depends on the market you sell into. Here is the selector.
United States: ASTM D6400 + BPI
US buyers should specify ASTM D6400 certification with the BPI mark. The standard requires 90%+ biodegradation within 180 days under industrial composting conditions, plus disintegration and ecotoxicity passes.
European Union: EN 13432
EU buyers should specify EN 13432. Since 12 August 2026 it is the mandatory baseline for all compostable packaging placed on the EU market, backed by the harmonised PPWR labelling framework.
Australia: AS 5810 / AS 4736
Australian buyers should specify AS 4736 for industrial composting or AS 5810 for home composting. Both are managed by the Australasian Bioplastics Association. Honest note: our Australian-certified line is currently limited — 4 SKUs hold AS 4736 or AS 5810. For the remaining formats, we can certify to Australian standards on custom orders.

Frequently asked questions
Can I sell the same product in the US and the EU with one certification?
The material can be certified to both ASTM D6400 and EN 13432 — many of our SKUs hold both. The testing protocols differ, so ask for both certificates and keep both files current.
Is OK Compost HOME the same as EN 13432?
No. EN 13432 certifies industrial compostability at 58°C+. OK Compost HOME certifies ambient backyard composting. If your customers dispose at home, specify the home-composting mark in addition to EN 13432.
What if my market is not covered by your standard certifications?
We run custom certification to your market standard from our 500 kg custom MOQ — the film formulations stay the same, the certification file is prepared for your target standard.
