PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Why specify ES-FB-06
ASTM D6400 BPI-certified compostable produce bags for grocery produce departments and food service operations in North America. Available in perforated roll format for one-at-a-time point-of-use dispensing, with 15\u03bcm gauge optimized for produce up to 3 kg.
The differentiator is cost at scale. Factory-direct pricing delivers approximately 12\u201315% savings per unit versus BioBag's equivalent BPI-certified product at comparable container-load volumes, while maintaining the same third-party verified ASTM D6400 compliance that U.S.
Where it sits in our range. ES-FB-06 anchors the North American produce-department segment.
When not to specify it. If you need dual EN 13432 + ASTM D6400 certification for cross-border operations, ES-FB-05 provides both marks.

USE CASES
Applications
Supermarket Produce Departments
ASTM D6400 certified produce bags that satisfy municipal composting requirements, customer sustainability expectations, and increasingly stringent plastic bag legislation
Food Service and Restaurant Operations
Ingredient preparation bagging and refrigerated food storage in certified-compostable liners — replaces single-use plastic wrap and bags across the kitchen
Farmers Markets and CSA Programs
Bulk produce distribution with fully compostable packaging from field to customer — single-material stream simplifies end-of-life for CSA members
HONEST TRANSPARENCY
Limitations & Storage
Maximum load of 3 kg at standard 15μm gauge — heavier produce applications should specify 20μm or 25μm gauge. Not suitable for wet or frozen produce where ice crystals may puncture the film and where constant moisture accelerates PLA hydrolysis. ASTM D6400 certification covers industrial composting only — not suitable for home compost marketing claims. Store in cool, dry conditions; shelf life of 12 months at 20–25°C and 40–60% relative humidity.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the practical difference between ASTM D6400 and EN 13432 certification?
Both are industrial composting standards requiring 90%+ biodegradation within 180 days. ASTM D6400 is the U.S. standard administered by BPI; EN 13432 is the European standard administered by TUV/DIN Certco. The testing protocols differ slightly in details, but the end result — verified industrial compostability — is equivalent. Our produce bags are dual-certified to both standards, enabling a single SKU for transatlantic market compliance.
How does ESINLE achieve lower pricing than BioBag at comparable quality?
ESINLE operates its own blown film extrusion lines — we are the manufacturer, not a reseller or converter buying film from third parties. By controlling the full production chain from resin compounding through blown film extrusion to bag conversion and packaging, we eliminate intermediary margins at each step. Our ISO 9001:2015 certified facility achieves competitive cost structure while meeting international quality and environmental standards.
Are 15μm bags strong enough for heavier produce items like potatoes or apples?
Yes. Our 15μm produce bags are tested and rated to hold 3 kg of mixed produce without tearing. The film's elongation at break exceeds 300% (tested per ASTM D882), meaning it stretches rather than ruptures under sudden load. For applications consistently exceeding 3 kg — such as bulk potato bags — we recommend upgrading to 20μm or 25μm gauge for additional safety margin.
