Compost Bags for Home Composting
01
What it is

Home compostable kitchen caddy bags made from a PLA+PBAT+corn starch formulation, OK Compost HOME certified by TUV Austria. Designed for the EU mandatory bio-waste collection framework and similar municipal organics diversion programs, these bags are leak-resistant for 72+ hours

02
Key differentiator

The breakthrough is cost parity. At a per-unit price within 10% of conventional PE caddy liners, these bags remove the premium barrier that has historically kept compostable liners out of municipal programs.

03
Where it fits in your range

Where it sits in our range. ES-FB-04 anchors the municipal-program end of our food bag category.

04
When NOT to specify

When not to specify it. If you need dual ASTM D6400 + EN 13432 certification for cross-border programs, ES-FB-05 carries both marks.

Not right for everyone

When not to specify it. If you need dual ASTM D6400 + EN 13432 certification for cross-border programs, ES-FB-05 carries both marks. If your collection system exposes bags to sharp or heavy waste (bones, shells, bulky produce), consider the 25\u03bcm

Applications

Municipal Food Waste Collection Programs

Bulk supply for city-wide kitchen caddy distribution — available white-label or co-branded with municipality logos and collection instructions

Supermarket and Retail Consumer Sales

Branded caddy liners for supermarket chains — the only home compostable option within 10% of PE pricing enables mass-market shelf placement

Commercial Kitchens and Staff Canteens

High-volume food waste bagging with full home compostability — saves on waste hauling fees by enabling clean organics diversion from general waste streams

Limitations & Storage

Maximum 72 hours of wet waste containment at 20°C ambient — exceeding this duration may result in seepage through the film. Not suitable for garden or yard waste containing thorns, sharp branches, or heavy woody material that may puncture the thin-gauge film. Store in a cool, dry place — elevated humidity above 70% RH will shorten shelf life. OK Compost HOME certification covers ambient temperature composting only; degradation in anaerobic landfill conditions is minimal and slow.

Frequently asked questions

How long do the bags reliably hold wet food waste without leaking?

Independently tested to 72+ hours with typical kitchen waste (fruit peels, coffee grounds, vegetable trimmings, plate scrapings) at 20°C ambient temperature. For best results, do not overfill beyond the bag's rated capacity and avoid sharp bones or shells that may puncture the film. Bags should be tied closed and placed in a ventilated caddy.

What is the actual cost difference versus conventional PE caddy liners?

Our 18μm home compostable caddy bags are approximately 8–10% more expensive than equivalent PE liners at comparable carton volumes. At container-load scale (20ft or 40ft), the premium narrows to 3–5%. The EU bio-waste directive is rapidly closing this gap as PE liners face regulatory phase-out in mandatory separate collection markets.

Can municipalities customize these bags for their specific collection programs?

Yes — we offer full white-label and co-branded options from 500 kg minimums. Common configurations include: municipality logo with collection instructions printed directly on the bag, color-coding by waste stream type, multi-language printing for linguistically diverse communities, and QR codes linking to local collection schedules. We have supplied customized caddy bags to municipal programs across 8 countries.
