Reusable Compostable Lunch Bags
01
What it is

Reusable compostable lunch bags made from PLA+PBAT film with a zip-seal closure, designed for schools, offices, and meal-prep services looking to eliminate single-use plastic from food storage. Food-grade and OK Compost HOME certified, they replace silicone and polyester lunch ba

02
Key differentiator

The zip-seal closure provides an airtight IPX3-rated seal that keeps food fresh and prevents leakage during transport. At end of life the bag breaks down in home compost within 12 months leaving zero microplastic residue.

03
Where it fits in your range

Where it sits in our range. ES-FB-01 is the lightest-gauge product in our food bag category at 40\u201350 microns, positioned for consumer-facing retail and institutional programs where branding and broad accessibility matter more than industrial-grade barrier performance.

When NOT to specify

When not to specify it. If you need industrial-compostable certification alone (without home compost), or if you require high-barrier performance for vacuum sealing or sous vide applications, ES-FB-02 or ES-FB-03 are the correct specifications.

Limitations & Storage

Not suitable for liquids or hot foods above 50°C (122°F). Repeated washing with hot water will accelerate PLA hydrolysis and reduce useful life. Not microwave or dishwasher safe. Maximum reuse of 30 cycles assumes proper care and cool-water washing — aggressive use or rough handling may reduce lifespan to 10–15 cycles. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Frequently asked questions

How do you clean reusable lunch bags between uses?

Rinse with mild soap and cool water, then air dry. These bags are not dishwasher safe — heat above 50°C may accelerate degradation of the PLA component. With proper care, each bag lasts 20–30 use cycles. For high-volume food service, a dedicated washing station with cool-water rinse is recommended.

Are the zip-seal and printing inks compostable too?

Yes. The zip-seal is manufactured from the same PLA+PBAT compound with a slightly modified polymer ratio for enhanced flexibility and reseal durability. All printing inks are EN 13432 compliant, soy-based, and independently tested to be free of heavy metals. The entire bag — film, closure, and print — composts as one unit.

What happens if a customer disposes of the bag in regular trash?

In an anaerobic landfill environment, biodegradation is significantly slower (years vs. months). However, the material will eventually break down without releasing persistent microplastics — unlike conventional polyethylene bags which fragment into microplastic pollution. We strongly recommend clear disposal labeling on packaging to encourage composting behavior.
