Limitations & Storage

Not suitable for microwave reheating or hot food wrapping above 50°C — PLA softens above its glass transition temperature (~55–60°C). For hot food applications, consider our heat-stabilized products. Industrial compostable only — PLA alone does not meet OK Compost HOME requirements due to slower ambient-temperature degradation kinetics. Maximum cling performance at 20–30°C; cling decreases significantly below 5°C.

Frequently asked questions

How does PLA cling film compare to PVC in terms of cling and stretch?

At equivalent gauge (12μm), ESINLE's PLA cling film achieves 85–90% of PVC cling strength and approximately 95% of PVC elongation at break. For most food service applications — wrapping bowls, covering trays, bundling produce — the difference is not noticeable in daily use. For applications requiring maximum cling (meat wrapping, very irregular shapes), consider our PLA+PBAT blend (ES-CF-04) which achieves cling parity with PVC.

Is PLA cling film safe for direct food contact?

Yes. PLA is FDA-approved for food contact (21 CFR 175.300) and meets EU Regulation 10/2011 for plastic food contact materials. Unlike PVC film, our PLA formulation contains no plasticizers that could migrate into food — the cling property is an inherent material characteristic, not an additive effect.

What composting certification does this product carry?

EN 13432 (OK Compost INDUSTRIAL) certified by TUV Austria. Industrial composting degrades the film within 90–180 days at 58°C+. For home compost certification, our PLA+PBAT blend (ES-CF-04) passes OK Compost HOME due to the lower glass transition temperature of the PBAT component enabling ambient-temperature enzymatic activity.
