Limitations & Storage

200% pre-stretch is approximately 20% lower than premium LLDPE machine films (which achieve 250–300%). For high-volume operations accustomed to maximum pre-stretch ratios, this means slightly more film used per pallet — the sustainability gains are from material biodegradability rather than material reduction. For maximum pre-stretch applications, consider our 100% PBAT machine film (ES-SW-02).

Frequently asked questions

How close is pricing to conventional LLDPE stretch film?

At current production scale, our 50:50 PLA+PBAT film is approximately 20% more expensive than LLDPE of equivalent gauge. For context, on a per-pallet basis this premium is approximately 0.08–0.12 EUR per pallet wrapped — a modest sustainability premium that many logistics operators find acceptable. As our production scales (target: 500 tonnes/month by 2027), we project the premium will narrow to under 10%.

Do I need to change my wrapper settings?

For most machines, the settings are similar to LLDPE: pre-stretch 180–200%, wrap force 8–10 kg. The film has slightly higher elongation at break, so the pre-stretch carriage may need a 5–10% higher setting to achieve equivalent load containment. We recommend starting at your current LLDPE settings and adjusting based on load containment testing — the adjustment is typically minor.

Can the film be stored in an unheated warehouse?

Yes. Unlike some bio-based films that embrittle in cold storage, our 50:50 PLA+PBAT blend maintains flexibility down to -25°C (PBAT component) while the PLA component provides structural integrity. Rolls can be stored in unheated conditions. For application, film should be at 15°C or above for optimal pre-stretch performance — bring rolls indoors the night before use in very cold conditions.
